Over generations, people have been harassed, deprived of their rights, and treated inhumanely on the basis of their race. People of color are not given the privileges as any other race gets, and to this day there remain numerous manifestations of racism inclusive of genocide, arbitrary arrest, slavery, etc. as well as everyday situations where people of color are maltreated. This is termed as racism. From the past 2 weeks, through the medium of social media, we have all grown to be more cognizant of this situation's extent.
As most of us have been informed; George Floyd, a man of color, was arrested by the police outside of a shop in Minneapolis and then pinned on the floor by an officer until death. Officer Derek Chauvin pinned Floyd to the floor and kneeled on his neck for several minutes, during this, Floyd continuously addressed how he was unable to breathe, he wasn't given any chance to explain; yet the officer didn't move. This is one incident out of millions, but it is more than enough to bring change to the customs of our world. People like George are mistreated on a daily basis, and people cannot seem to recognize the weight and consequences of their actions. To deprive them of their rights is to deprive them of their humanity. There is numerous instances to prove the prominence of racism, and cruel scenarios from only just the past week have proven the importance of action to be taken; black lives matter - nobody deserves to be given less privilege and treated as insignificant.
Individuals, communities, and particular nations have recognized the need for action and awareness. People across the world have tried to do their part by signing petitions, posting #blackouttuesday posts in solidarity of protests sweeping the US, funding/raising money for organizations, taking part in protests, etc. Arbitrary violence, killings, harassing, and arrest of people on the basis of their race is an unruly norm that must be eliminated and combatted. Organizations like "Black lives matter" have risen to the surface, they spread awareness upon the termination and combatting of society's discriminatory/unjust customs and norms.
Black Lives Matter is an international anti-racism movement, with the aim to eliminate white supremacy and work as a community/society to intervene in matters of inequality where violence is imposed on black communities. Without justice, there will be no peace!
It is our time to fight against racism and society's unjust norms, we must demand justice. Nobody deserves to be treated differently, particularly on the basis of something they do not have the ability to control. The way you deserve to be treated is not determined by your race, ethnicity, religion, etc. Inequalities exist, and it is our responsibility to combat them and make a change. Do your bit, change your mindsets, and be accepting of the change. Read into the stories of inequality that you hear, and make your effort to demand justice for all. We all deserve the same rights. Without equality, we stunt our world's development. Fight for an equitable world, where Black lives are free from systematic dehumanization.
Fight for justice, and fight for rights.
Push back.
