We wake up every day, oblivious of the impact of our daily activities on the environment. From brushing our teeth, to going out for grocery shopping, we may remain unaware of the unsustainable plastic products we continue to use. Every action you take may have consequences and/or some kind of influence or impact on your surroundings. The world has become reliant on plastic products, with no consideration of its impacts and the mass amount of wastage we are causing, enough to fill up hundreds of landfills. This blog will be discussing alternatives for plastic products, to reduce wastage across the world, expressing how we can make a difference.
Plastic is a very common material, and sometimes with just one use, it cannot be used again; this is termed as single-use plastic. These single-plastics are disposed immediately after one use, resulting in massive quantities of material waste across the world. There are numerous alternatives to single-use products, which are environmentally friendly and relatively are not as wasteful. Single-use plastics have been filling up the earth’s landfills rapidly, triggering pollution and damage to our environment.
Zero-waste alternatives can be implemented easily into our lifestyles, and they have all-round benefits considering cost, wastage and sustainability. By using stainless steel straws as a substitute for the plastic ones you dispose, you begin to make a difference and reduce consumption of single-use plastic products; next time you go to your local Starbucks, ensure that you have carried your steel straw, avoiding the use of single-use plastic and making a difference. By using silicon sandwich zip-locks instead of plastic ones, and by using a bamboo travel kit as an alternative plastic utensil while eating outside we already begin to make a difference; start small and the outcome could be unimaginable. A stainless-steel razor substituting a plastic razor, using sustainable produce bags instead of plastic/polythene ones and as well as the practice of using beeswax food wrap that can be reused unlike cling film that we dispose immediately after a single use. All of these replacements/alternatives are zero-waste and are far more sustainable choices.
For a healthy future, it is important for us to switch to zero-waste alternatives leading to an improved environment, less pollution and for the promotion of sustainability. Single-use plastic may not seem like much of an issue to you currently, but the consequences have only started appearing, and before we become entirely far too reliant on wasteful plastic products; it is important to make a worldwide lifestyle change, and we can make that difference.
Choose the sustainable alternative, choose a healthier world.
